CHAPTER 0

I sat down at the table in the break room in front of my laptop staring at the screen; I was so tired from my shift that day I was ready to go home. I could hear the sounds of the other associates scuffling around the room eating and talking about their day and what projects they were working on and such.
"Dang it" I thought. "4 more hours and this freaking shift is over." staring at the time on my computer screen slowly ticking away the seconds. It seemed like time was going way to damn slow for a thursday night. The screen read:

UMBRELLA CORPORATION WI-FI SECURITY NETWORK.

LOGIN:          [___________]

ACCESS CODE:    [___________]

DIV2 NUMBER:    [___________]

DATE:                 TIME:
12/14/2014            21:57:07

  ALL PRIMARY SYSTEMS STATUS: NORMAL

I always hated the 2AM shift. It was always the most boring one. All the citizens were asleep. Nothing to do nothing to look out for. Next to my computer, my Modded PSP was sitting on its stand charging through the computer showing me random feeds that I had selected earlier just in case... But as usual, everything was normal. Wow, thinking about the PSP, its really gone along way since it first came out. Of course the citizen models were appealing to them and innovative, but the umbrella models, now they are a new breed of tech. Sheer perfection.
I can still remember when whe first implemented them as standard hardware for associates. Back when the Corporation almost went under... Back when Kennedy almost discovered we still existed even though the papers and media said otherwise... He knew we destroyed Raccoon but what he didn't know was this: Even though we destroyed it,

We were still there.

Our cover story to the media was that Raccoon was destroyed in a nuclear reactor meltdown and that there would be no possible way of rebuilding the town. Of course, the media being as stupid as they are, they bought it... and so did everyone else in the world. With the Raccoon Labs gone and all of my work that was there literally vaporized, we in the blue branch almost lost our edge...
All of our work GONE, no hard copies no nothing. The only copies we DID have were the ones sent to a server in Tokyo every two weeks for emergency backup. It wasnt much but it worked. Some of my greatest work was lost in the Raccoon Incident... At least I still had all the blue prints and plans for them saved.
So with all of our work gone and no where to turn, I was going insane. I told them we had to rebuild. We had to start it back soon.

And that is what we did.

I bet your thinking "What?! You cant rebuild where a nuclear warhead was detonated! Are you insane?!" The fact of the matter is, we re structured the Uranium core in all of our warheads in such away that, surely the war head would vaporize all life form and anything else around it but however, in a matter of days after the bomb is detonated, it would make living conditions sustainable over the nuke site. Of course, the world has never seen such a thing and they never will. Thats why the blue branch is here for. That is why I work here. I develope and improve weapons and technology for the better of the Corporation and the world.
So rebuilding began. The outside world was shunned as to what was going on where Raccoon once was. It was none of their business either. That is until we complete it. Many people believe that in 2004, Umbrella was brought down, torn apart, gone.

They were. Well sort of. Only the RED BRANCH was destroyed.

The Red Branch. the public and pharmecudical division of Umbrella. They were the ones that took the fall because of the renegade S.T.A.R.S. members. No one else knew about the other branches. We never kept record of the other branches, simply because of incidents like that. White branch as always ballsy playing with highly lethal things and we knew that if something were to happen to them and they were exposed, we'd all possibly be done for. So we kept all talk of the other branches at a bare minimum.
The reconstruction took almost 13 years to complete but we got it done. Your probably asking yourself? What EXACTLY did we rebuild? Well we did not rebuild raccoon back to its entirety. The city was old, arcitectually speaking. I didnt like the design of it. They had me as lead design of the reconstruction project since i was the one who pressured the higher-ups to get on with it. I thought to myself: "What could we rebuild that would be beneficial to the corporation and to humanity?" Then I started thinking about what had happend to the rest of the world after the T-virus outbreaks.
From 2000 to 2011 was a scary time in the outside world. The T-Virus had spread uncontrollably killing hundreds if not millions of people. We here in our little habitat of course, were safe and unaffected by all of this. Many people died in the world due to that stubborn virus. The HAZMAT teams of the world joined together to stop it before it really got out of hand. For the most part its calmed down now... Dont get me wrong... Till this day, there are still outbreaks out there...
So while thiese out breaks were occurring, I came to a conclusion. We could rebuild a city "as a safe haven from the viral outbreaks." The city would be state-of-the-art technology and virus free. That was the cover up. What is our real goal? We would only let in the uninfected into the city. We had enough firepower to protect them if there was infact a world wide epedemic of the virus... Which was highly unlikely but i didnt rule it out. that would be foolish.
Housing the healthy would be simple, but why do it? Easy. If they were healthy and there was a global extermination, they would be used to repopulate the earth. Again, I stress that being worse case scinario. Of course the city is filled with vital statistic monitoring systems, cameras and such. We know everyone who lives here, who leaves, who comes in etc... To not know any of that information would also be foolish. Yes I am not going to go down in the companies history as one of those foolish scientists who didnt have backup plans or fail safes.. Our projects will work with no problems. The world will never know about them. Nothing will get out. Why? I control all information in and out of this city, I control the flow of communications, I control all technology here, I control all the weapon systems here, I control.....

Everything.

My name is Timesplitter88. I am Blue Umbrella.

CHAPTER 1

I looked up at the computer screen again to check the time; 10:00 on the dot. Time to go back to work. I put the laptop on stand by and gently closed it shut. The computer let out a few beeps to notify me that it had activated its own security system.
he security feature in it, I designed my self. It is a very lightweight, but still dense amount of soft grade Semtex-explosives inbedded in the inlining of the interior of the computer. If the computer was ever stolen or tampered with by an unauthorized user, basically it will self destruct. Not only can it destroy itself, but it can also be remote-detonated by any Umbrella TelSys Network cellphone around the world. Of course, that feature would be used as a last resort if it was determined that the computer was un-retrieveable. There is also no need of worry about the computer blowing up while you carry it with you. Since it is a plastic-material explosive, you can shoot it, bang it up, do what ever to it all day and it will never detonate.
I slipped my laptop in to my UTT Pack and then put the pack on and started my walk back to the elevators. Then my headset started beeping several times in my ear. I could tell it was someone from Control. I pushed the talk button to recieve the call.
"This is unit one." I said. "Unit one, this is Control. Whats your status?" "Well lets see, its 10:02 now and Ive got all my crap in my pack walking back to control. Is something wrong?" "No sir, just making sure your doing alright up there thats all."; he said it with a sarcasticness in his voice. "Why thank you Dave I didn't know you cared so much. Smartass. What did you call me for really? Computer crash? Serveillance failure? What is it? Another UCola? You really should lay off those things you know.. Ive herd some bad things from your wife about your soda drinking habits.." "...Ok.... Now whos being the smartass sir??" "Relax it was a joke. Really whats up?" "Were just making your youll be back ASAP... Its not an emergency or anything. Just about a report that came in a few minutes ago thats of a little concern." "Alright Ill be there in a few minutes. One out."
I pressed the button on my headset to kill the transmission. I dont know what the matter could be... What ever it was, he didn't seemed too concered about it.. Never the less, what could possibly be... Oh well no point in dwelling on it.
I kept walking down the hall to the elevators. A White Rain Surveillance Camera stared at me as I waited at the elevator. I slid my Id card, punched in my code on the touchscreen then entered in the floor I was going to: MR01. Then, a white light under the lens of the camera started glowing. The light meant that the Computer had activated the scanner on the camera to find out who I was. Access Granted. I could hear the humming of the elevator as it came to a stop on floor one. The doors opened. and I walked in.
Inside, another camera greeted me. The silver and black camera staring at me with a cold blank stare. Not moving, not making a sound. Who in the world would think cameras were even dangerous to begin with anyways right? I mean all they do is... record stuff!

Hah. Tell THAT to the dead employees of the Hive.

For a while, people thought I was a lunatic for what I was going to create. I was going to replicate a machine that killed hundreds of important employees and staff. They thought that the same thing COULD happen again; an accident happens, the computer finds out, the computer goes homicidal, lives are lost and a city is destroyed.
No. I wasn’t going to let that happen again. I’m not that foolish to put peoples lives in jeopardy AGAIN. So that’s why I created him: White Rain.
White Rain is a state-of-the-art Semi-Artificial-Intelligence Super Computer. Your probably thinking what in the world does S.A.I. mean? Simple. Where the developer of the Red Queen screwed up is, he let the machine ENTIRELY think on its own. It had the ability and freedom to do whatever it pleased. And based on what happened, it had its consequences. Semi-A.I. is the ability of the computer to be self conscious but however, it can not execute commands or decisions without human consent first. That’s its fail-safe. It gives us the variables in a situation, we tell it how to act based on our decision, not the computers. That way, there are no accidents whatsoever… Well, FEWER accidents I hope…
I un-holstered my USP .45 Auto Pistol and pulled back the slide enough to see inside the ejection port. A cold lead 115 gram hollow point filled with cordite sat in the chamber lifeless. I loved the smell of cordite for some reason. It was the smell..of death.
I could hear the sound of the elevator starting to slow down. I let go of the slide and it slammed back forward with a *click* sound. On the wall next to the doors, a large screen illuminated a map of the elevator system of the building. It was showing that the elevator was on my floor, MR01. A female computer voice came on: “Now on Floor M R 01.” The doors opened and I stepped out and stopped just outside the doors into the hallway. I waited for the sound of the doors to shut. Then kept walking.
The hall way was straight and narrow with only one door at the very end. The walls were almost entirely glass. Inside the glass were fluorescent lamps illuminating the hallway. At the end of the hall way was a very thick glass double-door. On one side it had the biohazard symbol etched in silver and on the right, the umbrella logo etched in silver. The lower part of the door had the yellow and black caution design going across it. The hallway looked beautiful with all its glass and steel. Of course the glass doors could withstand just about anything but just incase, we installed a large metal blast door in the ceiling if need be to use it.. I walked up to the key pad and slid my card and entered my ID number. Another camera was watching me as the glass doors opened and I slowly entered the room. The Monitor Room.
Yes the Monitor Room. If that sounds familiar to you, it was the name of the room in the Raccoon City Labs in which the security team watched and studied closely their inhabitants of the building. This room in the lab intrigued me the most because of its enormity and several monitoring devices and TVs. It was a beautiful thing for its time.
I walked into the Monitor Room. My most beautiful creation. It is my home. It is where I work. It is the epicenter of the city. It is where our operations begin. It is    perfection. Besides the red lamps glowing, the room was dark only illuminated by the several computer terminals; desktops, notebooks at docking stations all facing the front of the room in 6 rows, several flat-panel TV monitors everywhere, most of them hanging from the ceiling showing bits of information of the status of the city and its inhabitants. All of it was organized neatly and all their stations were organized in order of their operations. This is where it all happened. If something went wrong in the city, hell, in the world for that matter, we would know about it first: HERE. It reminded me a lot of how mission control looked back in the days of NASA. We are a team of 15-20 engineers and control staff depending on the situation at the moment.
On the front wall of the room, a large screen showing a vector map of the entire city and its surroundings took up the entire wall. The map was black and blue showing the various districts, roads, transit systems, and buildings in the city. It would show us anything we wanted to know. Under all of the map info, the words ALL SYSTEMS NORMAL could be seen. Nothing new about that!
I continued to walk to my work station. People were scattered about the room talking to each other silently, some of them at their work stations, some not. I sat down at my work station, took off my pack, and pulled out my computer. I sat it on the dock port then powered it on. The boot screen came on and started up as usual.
“How was your break sir?” Dave asked. “Fine Dave thank you for asking. What’s our current status right now?” He smiled, “were green all across the board.” “That’s what I like to hear.” He nodded, “Indeed. When ever you have the time, Ron and I need to talk to you about that report I was telling you about on your way back.” “Ok that’s fine. Is it serious?” “Well..” He looked away for a second, “No.. We just think there should be some slight concern about it that’s all.” “Alright then. Thank you Dave.” He walked away and continued to work at his desktop.
By then my Laptop was already at the login screen. I entered in all my info. ACCESS GRANTED……LOGING INTO NETWORK NOW… A loading bar appeared on screen. Then my desktop showed up with a window automatically poping up with it:

UMBRELLA WHITE RAIN ACCESS COMMAND PROMPT v4.0765a Build 455

All is well. Every thing is in order. What more could I ask for? Perfection. That was I built and that is what it is. I smiled, pressed the lock keys on the keyboard then got up and went to see what the situation with Dave was.
Dave was over at Ron’s workstation and they were both talking to each other trying to keep it silent but you could tell by their talking and expressions, they were having a slight argument about something…
“Gentlemen what seems to be the situation?” I asked sternly. They both looked up to me. Dave, slouching over on the desk stood up slowly and got closer to me and started whispering “ Sir, what we got tonight, it wasn’t a report, it was a distress signal from one of our teams. One of our patrol squads was patrolling in the industrial sector of the city and they sent out an emergency SOS to the command center. We tried to contact them but we couldn’t establish a stable link for communication. All we got was, static and broken transmissions… We don’t know where they are now or what their status is. We think they were attacked.” I snapped back and looked up at him.

“That’s impossible..”

As a completely objective person reading this story without any clue who you are, I must say, it's pretty interesting. I would like to know what happens to the people. I also liked the name White Rain and the Blue Umbrella, very color coordinated. There were a few gramatical errors, but nothing to impede on the understanding of the story, so overall, it was excellent:)
